18th Annual Polo in the Palisades Returns for a Special Afternoon Honoring Recovery Leaders, Community Champions and the Palisades Firefighters

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, September 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- After a year that forever changed the Pacific Palisades and the greater Los Angeles community, Miriam’s House is bringing back one of the Westside’s most beloved philanthropic traditions.

The 18th Annual Polo in the Palisades will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Will Rogers Historic State Park, bringing together hundreds of community leaders, philanthropists, entertainment and business figures, recovery professionals, families and longtime supporters for an afternoon of polo, celebration and purpose. It marks the first Polo in the Palisades since the devastating Pacific Palisades fires forced the event to pause in 2025.

“We weren't sure what the future would look like after the fires,” said Brenda Valiente, Executive Director of Miriam’s House. “But one thing became very clear: our community needed each other. Coming back to Will Rogers this year is about so much more than an event. It is about resilience. It is about honoring the people who showed up when our community needed them most. And it is about coming together once again to make sure women and children have a safe place to heal, recover and remain together.”

For nearly two decades, Polo in the Palisades has served as Miriam’s House’s signature fundraising event, helping provide critical support for its unique family-centered recovery program. Miriam’s House provides safe housing and recovery services for women and their children, helping families overcome homelessness, addiction, trauma and poverty while creating a foundation for lasting stability. The organization’s mission is simple but powerful: keeping families together.

A Celebration of Those Who Serve
This year’s Polo will place a special emphasis on service and resilience, honoring the Palisades firefighters whose extraordinary efforts helped protect lives, homes and the community during the fires. The event will also recognize leaders whose work reflects Miriam’s House’s commitment to recovery, healing and family.

Among this year’s honorees are Dr. Mel Pohl, Chief Medical Officer of The Pointe Malibu Recovery Center, who will receive the Distinguished Service in the Field of Recovery Award and Dr. Moe Gelbart, Executive Director of the Thelma McMillen Recovery Center who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Robert C. and Cindy Zapel from the Amy Phillips Charitable Foundation will receive the Spirit of Miriam’s Award, recognizing its extraordinary commitment to supporting the community and championing children’s causes.

An Afternoon of Polo, Philanthropy and Community
Guests will enjoy an afternoon of live polo, delicious food and beverages, and the event’s signature awards celebration, all set against the spectacular backdrop of Will Rogers Historic State Park. The event has become a highly anticipated gathering for Los Angeles’ philanthropic, entertainment, business and recovery communities. In 2024, the 17th Annual Polo in the Palisades welcomed more than 600 guests and raised more than $750,000 to support Miriam’s House and its programs.
